Snazzy Design Team Project #1 By Gillian ....

Good morning everyone, Gillian here with my first project of the week. Yet another month has sprung from nowhere and it is time for the Design Team to create with some more goodies. This month we will be featuring the Chalk Studio/MME - Enjoy Everyone Paper Kit along with these Kaisercraft Clear Stamps ... I'm working with Smile (CS130), Confidence (CS124) & Life (CS125).

The base of my project is using a Studio 490 Art Parts Fancy Oval Frames which I covered using the 12x12 Lettered Paper from the Paper Kit, adhering with Cosmic Shimmer Glue then sanding around the edges, this saves any cutting.

These papers have a beautiful white shading/chalk effect throughout the designs, so bearing this in mind I sponged Distress Paint (Picket Fence) around the edges to pull everything together. I then painted the Gears from the Art Parts Set Steampunk Gears & More using Distress Paint (Pitch Black), before stamping with Kaisercraft Clear Stamp - Arty, again using Distress Paint (Picket Fence).

I've sprayed the flowers {which were Gold/Bronze in colour prior to spraying} from the Prima Sunrise/Sunset Collection with Dylusions Black Marble & White Linen then thouroughly heat drying before adhering using Cosmic Shimmer Glue. I then added some Ideaology Light Bulbs and a Philosophy Tag.

Next using a left over rectangle Art Part shape, I painted this using Snowflake fresco Paint as I wanted  full coverage before stamping with Archival Ink (Jet Black). At this point I did not fully load the Kaisercraft Clear Stamp {Life} with ink as I didn't want a "crisp image" this would then match the whole overall effect of the project.

To tie in the top right hand side, I painted a Kaisercraft Wooden embellishment using Distress Paint (Pitch Black) then spritzed some Dylusions White Linen over the top before adding some more flowers as above.

So that's project #1 ..... I will be back on Thursday with my final project for Snazzy's. I have had the privilege of assisting Val & Don over the last few years in sharing the business that is Snazzy's with you all, setting up the Design Team blog and working with the best teamie's. As the old saying goes "all good things come to an end" .... with another year of studies ahead as well as working full time, something has to give. I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone at Snazzy's for letting me share the journey with you guys, and I wish you all the very best in the future. x

Without further ado the winner of last months Random Comment is ..... Helen (StampingByH)

Sweet Life - DT Project by Hels

Gooodly Morning Snazzyfans... as promised I am back again with my second offering using the fabby 7Dots Studio 9th Wave Collection papers designed by the wonderful Finnabair and the Hero Arts Stencils we have been playing with this month.  The base for my project is a firm papier mache 3d board which is perfect for taking lots of layers of the gorgeous papers in the collection.

I started by covering the whole base with a darker patterned side of the paper and lightly sanding around the edges to get rid of any snarly bits (I am a bit rubbish with a craft knife... and if you too are a bit rubbish with a craft knife, sanding the edges makes the papers fit nice and flush)  Next I cut some more papers to layer over in graduating sizes, with the smallest bit making a border across the board.  I used the Stencil and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to add some dots in two sizes and then sanded off all the edges of the layers of paper so they had a nice shabby finish that matched the base piece too.

I used some dies to cut a tab, in which I added a Rub On and then added a tag cut from the papers and again, sanded on the edges and some tattered lace to the border over the middle.  Tearing the tops of the layers was a bit of a doodah accident.... I hadn't meant to be quite so rough with my edge distresser and went a bit bonkers and off came the corner of the middle piece... so I improvised, tore the corner of the top piece and then stapled them together... aha, a cunning plan to avoid it looking like I made a booboo!

I made a 3d rose using diecuts... and added Iced Spruce DI and the large dotty bit of the stencil to add a bit of variation on the flower and also cut a banner and some leaves which I coloured with Forest Moss DI... again, sanding all the edges so they matched.  Finishing touches were black paint around the edges of the base board, an acetate butterfly and a sweet little birdy and some pearl pins.

As ever, there's a "random commenter prize" up for grabs this month so please do pop over HERE to Gillian's first post where you can join in and have a chance at winning a cool prize.  Thanks for looking.. have a great day!  TTFN

Love Bird - DT Project By Hels

Gooodly Morning Snazzyfans and a very happy Monday to you all!  Blimey, we are already in September, I don't know where the time is flashing past to!  This month we lucky DT girlies have been playing with the most delish papers from 7Dots Studio, designed by the uber awesomely talented Finnabair.  The paper collection is called 9th Wave and, as ever with Finn's designs, it is beautifully coloured and the textured backgrounds are a delight to work with.  Coupled with a fabby Hero Arts Stamp Set and matching Stencil, I have created an altered photo frame for my first piece this month.

I am a self confessed donut and forgot to get a piccie of the frame before alterations took place... I shall politely describe it as cheapo plastic covered faux wood circa 1970's stylee... but with a little bit of TLC, I transformed it into something much more glam.  Here's the paper insert I created.... and how I made it:

Starting with a piece of 6 x 8" paper from the 9th Wave Collection, I tore up a couple of strips of paper that are more purpley/pink in hue and used those colours for the base of my composition.  I used Dusty Concord and Black Soot Distress Ink to add some stencilling in the form of little dots to the edge of the paper, nudging the stencil so I have a nice subtle shadow going on.  Next up I used Ultramarine Archival Ink to stamp the torn paper image over the dotty inked bits and zapped this with a heat tool to dry the ink.  I added some larger stencilled dots by spritzing White Linen Dylusions through the Hero Arts stencil and then did a little bit more stamping, firstly using Plum Archival for the heart - stamping this twice to over lap the hearts and then with some Jet Black Archival to add a few solid lines and a couple of dotty lines.  The background papers are so gorgeous that you don't need to add anything extra to them but I do like the subtlety that the stencilling has introduced.

Next I set about adding some colour to paper flowers, using Crushed Grape and Black Marble Dylusions and some spritzes of Antique Rose Cosmic Shimmer to add some blingyness to the flowers.  These were then layered up with some metal Mechanical's embellies and some other bits and bobs from my stash.  The word was added using Alphaparts.  The frame was rather sad looking so I applied White Fire, Pewter and Royal Amethyst Treasure Gold to it using a brush... I love the way the metallic colours have blended together to give just a hint of purple on the frame.

As ever, the generous folks at Snazzy's are doing their random-commenter prize again this month.  Do CLICK HERE to see Gillian's first post and the deets how to partake... and also, please do scroll back through the months' posts to see all the delish designs the other DT girlies have made... they are all amazing as ever.  I will be back later in the week with my next offering... these papers are just soooo lush, I have hardly any left... oooh, any excuse to buy more stash right?  Speaking of which, don't forget that Snazzy's has a website... CLICK HERE for the shop!   Thanks for looking, have a fabby day!  TTFN

DT Project #2 showcasing 7 Dots Studio 9th Wave Collection by Astrid

Hello dear Snazzy visitors and happy Thursday to you all.
For my second project this month I made a little tag book:
I used size #10 Manila tags and covered both sides with the wonderful papers. I then used stencils, inks and stamps to decorate them. Though the outside is quite chunky, I left the inside fairly plain to really showcase the beautiful papers. I had great fun decorating them all.
Here's the front cover before I bound it together, this is the only page I embellished, I also added some texture paste through a part of the Hero Arts Stencil.  The sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Simple Sayings set.
Here I used the new Tim Holtz stencils and some stamps from my stash Sentiment is from the same set.
More stenciling, some background stamping with Prima stamps from an earlier DT kit and the butterflies are of course from the Tim Holtz Papilon set and the Hero Arts Notebook Essentials stamp that came with the DT kit.
Here I used the Tim Holtz Classic #1 set and the Hero Arts stamps as well as the stencil from Hero Arts
More stamping and stenciling and using the same stamp sets again plus some chit chat stickers
Nearly there.... this time using the beautiful Dragon fly
And for my last page a la Blanche stamp from my stash
Finally the back cover is just from the papers with nothing much added to it at all.

Well, hope you like my little tag book. I had great fun stenciling and stamping, trying to pick up on the colours that are there in the papers already. I found Victorian Velvet, Weathered Wood, Broken China, Tea Dye and Black Soot Distress inks all blend to perfection with the colours of these papers.

Well, that's it from me for this month. I'm off to Swindon tomorrow to meet up with all the Snazzys folk, can't wait, and who knows,  I might see you there :)

Don't forget to come back on Monday when Hels will be here to show us her take on these wonderful papers and stamps!!

DT Project #1 showcasing 7 Dots Studio 9th Wave Collection (by Astrid)

Hello dear Snazzy visitors, lovely to see you here!! Can you believe we are nearly at the end of August??? Scary! Well by now you will know that this month we are featuring the wonderful papers designed by Finnabair. We at Snazzys are all very excited because this coming weekend Finnabair herself will be doing workshops at Snazzys, yippee!!
Anyway, on to my project:
The moment I clapped eyes on these wonderful papers I knew that one of my projects would be a layout of some sort. Now I am not a scrapbooker by any stretch of the imagination, but these papers are so gorgeous, you just cannot go wrong. I decided I would use some of the techniques I learnt from Finn when I did workshops with her last year, and I also wanted to pick up on some of the elements that are printed on the papers themselves, like lace and textured tapes.
So here is a quick step by step of how I did my LO
I cut a piece of mount-board to 12" by 9" and covered it with one of the papers. I then tore some rough strips of another paper and adhered them to my background with gel medium.

I added a thin layer of watered down gesso to blend them into the background and then added some texture paste through some stencils to add some texture. I used both the Hero Arts Stencil,  Boarders that came with our DT kit and some stencils from my stash.
Here's a close up so you can see the texture a bit better:
I added texture both over the background and the paper strips.
Next I gathered some of the bits and pieces I wanted to add to my LO, a photo of course (the one I chose is one of my dad and uncle when they were little boys, I think it was taken in 1914, my dad is the one on the left)
Don't you just love that photo? And yes, for those who like to do their maths, I am quite ancient, but he was quite old when he had me lol....
So here are some of the other bits and bobs I used, chipboard elements, lace, a doily, textured ribbons and tapes, some cheesecloth etc. Flowers will come later. I didn't have many metal embellishments left in my stash so I used mainly chipboard, but Snazzys has a great collection of steam punk and other metal embellishments that would be brilliant for this.
Next I arranged and re-arranged  them onto my LO  until I was more or less happy with the result and also added some flowers lying around in various baskets on my desk. The colours don't matter at all at this stage.
I glued them on with a mix of Cosmic Shimmer glue and gel medium and when it was dry covered everything with several layers of Gesso.
I really quite liked it at this stage, but of course it needed a bit more drama, so out came the sprays. I used a mix of Tattered Angels, Cosmic Shimmer and Dylusions sprays.
Yikes, I don't like this, far too blue. It needs more depth...
Onto the Acrylic paints next, dark brown, black and white. I added dark shadows around the main embellishments and whited out some of the areas that had gone too blue, I also highlighted some of the raised bits again with more white and finally rubbed some Treasure Gold in Pewter to add a few more highlights, - done!
Here you can see some close ups:

And the final result of the whole LO:

Well there you have it, hope you like my LO, not exactly Clean And Simple lol....
Anyway, as you probably know, if you leave a comment on Gillian's first post you're in with a chance to win a fab price, and don't forget to check out the other wonderful projects my teamies have been making with this fantastic collection! I'll be back later on in the week with another little project, so hopefully will see you then.

DT Project Pt1 by Minxy, Featuring ....

7 Dot Studio : 9th Wave Collection
Hero Arts Stencils
***
Hay Snazzy Gang
Today I will be sharing the first half of my project, which is this paper case.

This is a really simple make and all you need is 1 sheet of 12x12 paper,
a scoreboard {or ruler and embossing tool} and something to cut like a paper trimmer or scissors.

Oh yeah and to watch MY VID

I used dusty concord and mowed lawn distress ink through the Hero Arts stencil.
The clasp is a Tim Holtz idea-ology piece and the ribbon is from my stash although snazzy's sell a massive range of ribbons in store.

I'll be back on thursday to share what goes in the case..
Till then stay inky
