DT Project #1 - Diana

HI everyone!!

as the lovely ladies had all shown you this month already we all have been working with Kaisercraft's Art of Life line and the projects before me were totally spectacular i must say!
for my project i decided to follow suit with Minxy and show a video close up of my project followed with a  few pictures.


i must say i absolutely loved working with this line of paper.. the neutral tones were so my style!!!
so here is my video:

and here are the close up pictures including a few befores and durings!! so here is the plain book i started with.

 i used my ruler and a fiskars rotary trimmer and cut out some centres all the way through.

 i coloured the cut outs with my lovely tim holtz distress markers

because i had mod podged sections of my book together it allowed me to use the cards as tabs on each section. i really love how it turned out. i find it very antique/vintage like!!

DT Project #1 by Diana - blocks of love featuring JilliBean Soup!

hi everyone. here i am sharing with you my creation using JilliBean Soup Heart Healthy Red Bean Soup collection
i started my project off with a 2x4 which i cut down to size, sanded the edges and then painted it black.
next it was just a matter of layering on this lovely paper and adding bits and bobs along the way. i am not a neat kind of scrapbooker or mixed media artist or well okay neat anything when it comes to art so i just had to add a bit of distress to my papers along with a bit of black edging using archival ink.

for those papers that were white based, and i wanted to use them, i just added a bit of frayed burlap distress ink to them to add the kraft touch

here is my project. hope you like it!

i love that i can rearrange them depending on where i want to stack them!

Graphic45 and me -

i have to fully admit that Graphic45 is one of my favourite lines of paper.. not that i use paper because as a rule now a days i don't but i have to say that of ALL the paper lines out there Graphic45 is my favourite by smell alone!!!

so with that said let me get started on the first of three projects that i have completed in the last couple of weeks to share with you.

i am a big believer in using what you have so i started with an empty cheese container, the package of Graphic45 papers, and a pair of scissors (tim holtz scissors but of course!)

added a bit of glue:

a bit of sanding and a bit of paint:

next i mixed a bit of Tim Holtz paint and wendy vecchi embossing paste and using a prima brick mask created the outside of the container...

now it was a little too messy (i know!!) for me so added a tad bit of paint to calm it down.

and ended up creating this:

a little mini book inside the once ready for the recycle bin container!! i had so much fun...i wasn't sure what was next but before too long i was creating again...you can see the sneak peak in the background of this photo!!

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town...By Hels Sheridan

Goodly Morning Snazzyfans and a very Happy Christmas to you all.  Today I am here with my DT offering featuring the gorgeous Carta Bella Christmas Day Collection papers - oooh lalalalaaa, Carta Bella always do the most fabulous designs and these papers are simply beautiful.  The colour palette appeals to me - it is a vintage red, green, cream and brown toned collection, absolutely perfect for all your Christmas projects - do scroll back through the month because the DT have made some totally amazing arty pieces using the papers.

I am in a bit of a Paper Blocking mood at the moment and each year I make something festive to pop onto the wall... so this year I decided to alter a canvas, using the Paper Blocking technique - which really is simple, use up all your little off-cuts by simply layering them onto a board or canvas, smudge over some watered down creamy coloured paint, in my case I used Traditional Tan paint, using Cut & Dry foam... once this is dry, use either Multi Medium or Glue & Seal to give the whole piece a waterproof seal and then use either charcoal, black paint or a Stabilo All pencil and smudge along the overlapped bits to add some definition.  I added on one of the stickers from the paper collection, I bobbed him onto some card, cut it out, glued it to the canvas and then edged around him so he pops from the design.  The finishing touch was the addition of the Christmas Muse Token... I love these little charms because they are so versatile and the word fits perfectly with my theme.

Hallowe'en Part 1 From Hels

Hellllooooo and happy *nearly* Hallowe'en from me.  As you will probably be aware, the DT have been playing with those  amazing All Hallow's Eve papers from Carta Bella and those scrummy Hallowe'en Blueprint stamps from Tim Holtz for our DT kits this month.   I got myself all excited when I first saw the papers... they are L U  S H!  But when I felt them... well, I got all unnecessary because they are very finely textured and an absolute dream to work with.  The other thing that I really loves about them is that they are not orange.  I know orange is a traditional Hallowe'en colour, how refreshing to have papers that haven't got that though, brings in a whole new way of looking at things.

My first project this month is an altered papier mache H.  H is, of course, for Hallowe'en and I do love to do 3d alterable stuff so this little fella was perfect.  I chopped up some of the papers (I know, I had to be very brave for that part) and then randomly glued them all over the H.  Once the H was completely covered, I popped some Traditional Tan paint onto my craft sheet, spritzed it with water and then smooshed it all over the H with some Cut & Dry foam.  This dulls down the over all patterns without obscuring them and just gives the piece a smoother overall look.

Once that had dried, I whizzed around the edges, every so casual like, nothing needs to be perfect for this kind of altered piece, with some Pitch Black Paint Dabber.  Once this was dry I got some Ranger Glue & Seal and painted the H all over.  Glue & Seal is a brilliant product, yes it does exactly as the name would suggest, it is a fine paper glue but I use it more for sealing my paper projects.  This protects them from fading and from getting grubby but it also means that you can add spritzes and sprays without fear of it soaking into the paper too much.

Talking of spritzes... I used my ever so favourite Black Marble Dylusions spray to add some cool black spiders blood streaks and splatters... the closer you spray, the better the drips will be... and I also sort of shook the bottle at the H, the residue of the black in the nozzle will drop out to add some more splats too.

The black looked good but it needed something else... something a bit rusty looking... so I used Ancient Copper Cosmic Shimmer Spray and spritzed up close to the surface for an intense hit of rusty blingyness.   All that done I got on with the embellishing.  The bats are from the stamp set, stamped onto Grungepaper with Archival Ink, cut out and then inked with Pumice Stone and Black Soot Distress Ink.  I curled their wings a bit to make them a bit more flappy.  The spider is from a goody bag I got in the £ shop for...erm... 99p (ahem, quite)  He is a big old ugly looking thing and I positioned him so he was creeping up over the side of the H.  Using a glue gun to make a web for him was the genius idea from Gillian (credit where it is due and all that!)

The finishing touches are some clay pumpkins I made and the skelington... he is a dandy looking chap isn't he!!!    I am really chuffed with how this turned out... better than I had expected... and it is all down to those gorgeous papers, they are the basis for my ideas and inspiration.  For more info about the DT kit and how to get your hands on a set, please CLICK HERE because Snazzy's are now selling the exact same DT kits we are given...and... even better... there is a 10% discount if you order them together!  Do scroll back through the month too because all the totes-amazeballs projects that the rest of the team have made are all here for you to see too.

The Steampunk Locomotive by Hels

Gooooooodly Morning Snazzyfans! I don't know about you but I do love a smidge of steampunk - ok, I admit, I am totes-addicted to all things steampunkery so when I received my DT package for August (many thank-you's to Val & Don for their fab choices btw) I was chuffty-tuffty. The rest of the girlies have been busy making all their steampunk creations so if you haven't had a chance to look at them yet, please do scroll back thru the month so you can be inspired!



The first week of the month saw us offering a challenge and we all made a little something with the Chocolate Baroque stamps and goodies we had been given. I made a 6" shadowbox and whilst making that I came up with an idea for my main project. I have this old chipboard house and I was planning to add some cogs and gears to the roof and make it a bit steampunky. When I finally found the chipboard house (yep, several hours rummaging ensued before that saw the light of day again) I was dead disappointed. It was just so wrong, the height, the size, the whole thing! Funny how our memories change the way something looks isn't it? Anyways. Whilst doing said rummage, I found a mini shadowbox that is about 3 1/2" square. That set the cogs whirring (haha, steampunk reference there lol) And then the cogs whirred some more.... and gradually the little shadowbox evolved into ... The Steampunk Locomotive.


You might not know this but I do love trains - comes from driving them for 10 years I reckon. Well, this little box was being transformed into a vehicle, the cotton bobbins making perfect wheels when I had this here brainwave. The Loco needed a form of propulsion! What better than a hooge propeller on the roof? Out came mountboard and a pair of scissors and almost instantly, into the bin they went. Akkk, all wrong. They needed some dimension but also needed to be swooshy. Another rummaging sesh in the box of metal embellies unearthed 3 Idea-ology Wings.... YAY! PERFECT!!!! And of course, if you have a propeller you need a windy thing to make it start to move... so the Idea-ology Clock Key was perfectomundo for this job. Then, when I popped it onto the top of the Loco it looked more than naff! So, another rummage (you should see the state of my room now!) I unearthed more treasure in the form of really old cotton bobbins, like smidgey little ones... and after gluing the propeller to the mini bobbin that I had painted silver just worked.


Faced with decorating the inside of the box came next. I had planned to do a mini patchwork inside it... and then spied a little sqaure frame that was lounging about on my desk. I quickly whacked some black paint onto that and popped it into the middle.... perfect fit but it was a bit flat. So, another bobbin was used, gluing it to the back of the box and then to the frame... and the Idea-ology Drawer Pull is actually supposed to be a window-opener (like on a Mark 3 coach) The Chocolate Baroque stamp I used was stamped a few times and layered and then I added watch bits and three ickle watch hands.


So, that was the Loco more or less finished. But then I decided that it need a buffer on the front (purist railwaywoman remember?) I had a G45 brad so that got stuck to some Idea-ology Gears and then they were stuck to another old bobbin. And of course, a buffer on one end means a tail lamp on the other... so out came a wooden cog, an old but and an Idea-ology Bulb, painted red and aged with black paint. The wheels look ok but.. .they needed something else, so I parted with 4 Hitch Fasteners (they are now discontinued unfortunately) and a bit of Ball Chain... and voila, one Steampunk Loco ready for duty. How I wish I had more of those little shadowboxes because I want to make some coaches for it now! Anyways, if you will indulge me, imagine my little Loco, clonking along, sounding a bit like Ivor the Engine and issuing smoke and steam...
