Hello again lovely Snazzy's visitors,

I made it back with another project almost at the last minute, lol!  Actually the weather is partly to blame for me being late because I couldn't take any photos till this morning even though my project was finished last night.  I'm actually feeling quite miffed (being polite here) because the blooming weather has put paid to my plans for this weekend.  I was supposed to be travelling down to Swindon tonight, taking a friend with me, for an overnight stay followed by a lovely workshop with Val and my first ever visit to Snazzy's but it looks like the snow has put paid to that and I have to say I'm really gutted.  Ah well, maybe another day but I so wanted to have a go at that fabulous mask which you can see HERE if you've not seen it before.

Now on to my project which is a piece of wall art.  First I gave the 'butterfly wing' and the small solid cog a coat of Gesso followed by a slightly thinned coat of white acrylic paint.  Next I took a selection of Versamagic inkpads and blended my chosen colours over the wing.  I followed this with some random stamping using stamps from Chocolate Baroque Lace Fragments set and Steampunk Butterfly Set and a Cobalt Archival inkpad.  I then used a script mask and applied Coffee Archival ink here and there over the stamping. 

(Sorry it's not at the proper angle but it is quite a long piece and I haven't yet put any means for hanging it on the back so had to take the photos with it lying flat)

I cut a piece of wire mesh from a roll I found in my local charity shop.  It's actually gold coloured with bits of glitter on and was in their Christmas decorations.  Not my cup of tea at all, lol, but perfect for my purpose once I'd chopped it up a bit and treated it with some alcohol inks.  I attached it to my 'wing' with Ideology Screw Eyes!

I then set about making my embellishments.  I glued some Prima script paper (in two contrasting colours) to Whiteout Clearly for Art using Ranger Glue and Seal and then cut out some flowers using my TH/Sizzix Tattered Florals die.  On the lighter shade of paper I over stamped with a cog background stamp from the Chocolate Baroque Steampunk Butterfly set using Coffee Archival ink and then inked all the petal edges with the Cobalt Archival.  I set about heating and shaping all the flowers and then layered them, securing with Cosmic Shimmer Glue before arranging them all on my wing.  I attached them with silicone glue and then used the Cosmic Shimmer Glue to put blobs in the flower centres to which I added micro beads.

Next, I stamped the Steampunk Butterfly twice using Versamark ink onto Black Clearly for Art and heat embossed with gold detail embossing powder.   I've had this pot for years and it's gone a rather strange colour (pongs a bit too ;D) and I was doubtful it would work but it actually came out the perfect colour for my project.  Once it had cooled I cut the butterflies out and then heated them again to shape the wings before attaching them to my project with silicone glue.

The final bit was the solid cog which I covered with some of the lighter script paper and then inked the edges with Cobalt Archival.  The word 'LOVE' is a Studio 490 Art Part which I inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and then heat embossed using an embossing powder in my stash..  I stuck this to the cog with Cosmic Shimmer Glue (note to self - need more of this fab glue) and then stuck the cog with the same glue to the wing.  I finished off with a couple of wire 'antennae'

Well that concludes my projects with this fun kit and I have to say that from starting out a bit baffled about what I was going to do, I ended up having  a fab time with lots of different products from my stash, many of which can be purchased from Snazzy's.  Next week it's Minxy's turn and she usually has something quirky and inspiring for us all so I'm really looking forward to seeing her projects. 

(Now you've seen the project I'll let you into a secret, my almost 5 year old granddaughter was looking at it this morning and asked what it was.  When I told her, the response was that it looks like a fish, lol!  I think she's not far off the mark!)

Chocolate Baroque 

Steampunk Travel Stamps

Hello Snazzy Folks, Happy Monday to you all.

So the team has had some fun Steampunk inspired items to play with this time round and boy have I had some fun.

Initially I was a little stumped as to what I might do with the stamps but mr mojo had a lightbulb moment and hay presto, this was created.

It actually started out as packaging... A gift set of some sort, anyway at the time I looked at it and thought..  hmmmm I can alter that.

And that's just what I did.  Because one side of the box was slightly thicker I thought it looked like an old fashioned TV on it's side so with a couple coats of studio black gesso and some gold acrylic dabber highlights it was transformed. Oh and not forgetting some round bling gems for knobs.

Then I lined the inside with a sheet of Kaisercraft paper, the box came apart {slide off lid} so it made it fairly easy if not a bit fiddly to do.

Next came the fun bit. I stamped each of the Chocolate Baroque flying machines in black archival ink onto clearly for art whiteout, and left it to dry overnight.

 {I found it needs a longish time to dry so the ink doesn't smear, I tried heating it but as you know the clearly for art stuff is heat moldable and I didn't want any warping before colouring it}

Once the images were dry I coloured with artist pencils as I wanted a nice muted tone to each machine.
Once coloured, I cut them out and attached to the papered base using a strip of clear acrylic packaging {stuff your dies come in} so as not to see it, and make it appear as if the machines are actually floating.
The finishing touch was to print the title of a very famous film on some acetate and stick it to the lid with some ultra clear tape, and add a bit of wire to the top as an aerial.

Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe by Hels

Gooooodly Morning SnazzyFans! I am here with my first project for July - using those GORGEOUS Graphic 45 papers and stamps from the Old Curiosity Shop range. On with my creation: It is a blank wooden housey shaped thing that has been lurking in my stash for several decades, gathering dust and all that. Well, it just popped into my conciousness as soon as I saw the papers and stamps. I thinks to myself "I could use that wooden housey thingy that has been lurking for several decades...." I reckon that you would not actually need this shape to make something similar though - you could use a Configurations box or a Printers Tray if you fancied.


I started by painting the inside of the compartments with Traditional Tan paint (my fave paint and colour) and once this was dried, I painted the front and outsidey bits with Pitch Black Dabber - using a small brush to apply it to the smaller bits. Once this had dried I sanded it all back to reveal patches of wood and then used Gathered Twigs DI, blending it into the grain of the wood to make it look old.


Each compartments has got a base of G45 papers - they are all just so lush and the colours are so me, I was in a dither which ones to use! The harlequin is my favest so that went into the top section - I added in some snips from the papers, glued onto cardstock and shaped and then stuck to the box with a fold of card - like a prop. The butterflies were glued onto Clearly For Art and then cut out, edged with more DI and then heated (from the CFA side) and then placed inside the compartment with a smidge of hot glue to hold it in place.



The next compartment features some bottles - these are stamps from the set - stamped in Jet Black Archival onto Clearly For Art, dried, cut out and then heated and shaped. The one at the back of the compartment has a lady inside it - you need to click to see it closely though (rubbish camera skills!) The fancy glass bottle is an ancient one from my stash and the other one is a Corked Vial.



Compartment three has a flying pig - another snip of paper, glued to card, cut out, edged and then popped onto a fold of card so he can fly thru the air. The Corked Vial has another bit of paper on it - legs in a bottle... and there's a little steampunky charm and a really old vial that is also from my stash.


Compartment 4 sees a jugged butterfly - well, it is captured inside the Corked Vial... poor thing, he didn't suffer though because I popped Alcohol Ink into the bottle first so he had some nice fumes to sniff (yep, lost the plot)






The rest of the compartments were all filled in the same way and to finish, I added more butterflies to the box and a brass dragonfly. Oh and the eyeglass - this is another relic from the stash box too... it is a proper one too but could I get it to photograph properly? No!
