For my first canvas I went with some neutral tones.

I started by spritzing the canvas with water and then dobbing distress paint in 'walnut stain', 'frayed burlap' and 'antique linen'.

I spritzed with more water so the distress paint bled, blended and dripped down the surface.

I also sprayed through a TCW 'tiny circles' stencil with a home-made spray {'walnut stain' distress re-inker and water} to give a bit of a darker contrast, which worked really well.

It is so much easier to work on the flat canvas which is what I love about this kit.

The drips brought to mind flower stems, so I created some from book pages and sheet music using the tim holtz tattered florals die.

I choose 3 {out of several flowers I made} and placed then roughly where I wanted them to go on the canvas, keeping in mind the drips as stems.

I then enhanced the stems by stamping words from the Wendy Vecchi 'seriously art' stamp plate in 'coffee' archival ink.

I had some left over flower die-cuts so I made some buds to add to the stamped stems, which finished off the piece just right.

Snazzy's DT Project showcasing the Gallerie Wrap Canvas (posted by Lesley)

Hello again Snazzy's visitors,

Wow, the months sure are flying and we're almost in May although the weather can't seem to make it's mind up, lol!

As you know, this month the DT kit is a Gallerie Wrap Canvas which includes frames that you can make up yourself AFTER you have done your artwork while the canvas is flat.  I would point out that any 3D elements would probably need to be attached after the frame has been constructed (as was my flower) but any painting, inking, stamping, stencilling etc., can all be done first.  This means that your design can go right to the edge of the canvas which will be wrapped round the sides of the frame.  Clear as mud? Never mind you'll see what I mean shortly.

I decided to go in a totally opposite direction to Gillian's fabulous project last week and my canvas is very clean and simple to look at.  I just hope my (leaves a lot to be desired) photography does it justice, lol!

There are several sizes you can make the frames into.  I chose the largest which is approx 31 cm x 20.5 cm. First of all I applied Grunge Paste mixed with a smidge of Crafty Notions Puff Paint through two different stencils (these were from my own stash but Snazzy's do stock a selection) in opposite corners of the canvas.  Keep in mind the canvas is flat at this point and I tried to judge it so that the design went right to the edges which would form the sides of the canvas when framed.  After heat setting this to make it puff and once I was sure it was completely set, I painted the whole canvas with a mix of small amounts of dusky mauve acrylic paints added to lots of white.  I knew that covering such a large piece of canvas I was never going to get a completely even colour so I didn't worry about that too much but just kept it as close as I could each time I had to mix a new batch.

                                     

I then used three different Chocolate Baroque flowers to stamp onto Grungepaper.  I really just wanted the outlines and I stamped two of each and then cut them out.  I painted the top side with the same shades as the canvas and the under side with the darkest colour in my mix except for the very bottom layer which I painted dark both sides.  I then ran each flower layer through an embossing folder to give them some texture and then rolled the edges of the petals before layering them together with glue, finally adding the metal heart (Snazzy's have a lovely selection of embellishments) to the centre.  I found the Grungepaper seemed to take and hold the embossing better once painted but unfortunately I couldn't get it to show on the photos.

These pics show how the texture paste designs continue over the sides of the canvas.

 This was partly an experiment with the Grunge Paste and Puff Paint because I wanted to see if it would 'bend' over the edges and it wasn't bad at all ............ thank goodness or that would have been one canvas wasted, lol!  There was a small amount of cracking but I think a bit more experimenting with ratios of GP to PP and I might even be able to eliminate it.

Using the elements in the kit, I constructed the frame onto the back of the canvas before fixing the flower to the front.

 

 In this instance because I wanted to rely on the texture for the design I resisted my usual inclination to use inks through stencils/masks followed by stamping but this method of using canvas would be brilliant to enable you to stamp, etc., round the sides.  I even resisted adding a focal quotation to this project because I wanted lots of empty space but I could easily do this at a later stage if desired.  For now I like it blank.

Because of the monochrome colour of this project I hope the photos aren't too boring.  In real life the texture is lovely.

Sorry but I just realised I missed something ;-) !  I made a little stencil of my own with a piece of acetate and a long reach small hole punch so that I could add dots of texture round the top right area to tie it to the bottom left and I also added more dots to what became the bottom left side area.  I had to do a bit at a time drying the texture paste with a heat tool before going on to the next bit.  (Thanks Nicky for reminding me with your comment about the dots, lol!)

Snazzy Design Team Project By Gillian ....

Good Morning everyone, Gillian here with our new design team kit for the month ahead. This month we have been challenged to create our own canvas using the Gallerie Wrap Canvas Kit.

This kit allows you to creat your own custom canvas and you can find a "how to" on Youtube HERE (have to say wish I had found this first before commencing assembly lol).

For my canvas yes you've probably guessed correct which route I have taken .... Vintage, Grunge, Distress, Tim Holtz (all of my favourite things).

To start with I painted the outer edges of the canvas using Distress Paint (Black Soot), next I applied some Ideaology Tissue Wrap Paper with Ranger's Glue N Seal (Matte) before randomly stamping the "Gear" image from the Tim Holtz (Time Travelers) set using Archival Ink (Sepia). I have also built up the layers of colour using Distress Paint (Rusty Hinge, Walnut Stain & Weathered Wood), knocking back with a wet wipe for a more subtle effect.

I then stamped various images using Archival Ink (Jet Black) from the following sets -  Time Travelers, Ringmaster Blueprint, Way With Words onto manilla cardstock.

The "hand" and "admit one ticket" have been inked with Distress Ink (Walnut Stain).

Both gentleman (Wyatt & Doc ... yes I have named them!) have been coloured using Distress Markers (Rusty Hinge, Weathered Wood & Vintage Photo). The words "Courage Is Being ... were stamped onto Kraft cardstock, cut out and edged with Black Soot Distress Marker. *Note the pocket watch ... I added one of the small epoxy stickers from the Sunrise/Sunset Prima collection*.

More layers using the newly released Ideaology Remnant Rub Ons which I adore.  I hope you have enjoyed this project, Lesley will be here next week sharing her project using the above kit.

Lucky Number...By Hels

Goodly Afternoon SnazzyFans!  Here's my DT offering for this month, using the fabby new Sunrise Sunset goodies from the talented Ania Dabrowska for Prima.  The collection is very wide and incredibly well thought out with lots of gorgeous embellies to go with the beautiful papers, not to mention the cool stamps too!  I have combined some of the papers with some of the embellies and made this tag:

It is a Ranger Size 10 tag, I cut the bottom 21/2" off to make a piece for hinging and then added three layers of the papers, edging these with Walnut Stain Distress Ink to make them nicely blended.

The flowers are just plain cream ones that I added some Dylusions sprays to to colour them... and once assembled, I gave them a zap with Black Marble Dylusions and Marigold Cosmic Shimmer spray.

The metal embellies were gilded with waxes to change their colours to match in with my colour theme and I also added a piece of the wooden scallop - I had snipped this down to size and coloured it with Black Soot Distress Stain.  A few eyelet and some thin twine to join the two sections together and voila, a cute little wall hanging tag.

Prima/ Finnabair Sunrise Sunset Collection

Hay lovely peeps, As promised i'm back for another offering of Finn/Prima goodness

This time in the form of a journal spread.

I have to admit when I received the Finnabair mixed media journal in our kit I was both delighted and terrified. I just adore how Finn makes over her covers, but having never given anything like that a go b4 I totally bottled doing it as I didn't want to ruin the journal, so went for the safe option and opted for a double page spread instead! I promise when I do get the cover done I will share on my blog {some time in the distant future lol} 

I started by removing 2 of the kraft pages from the journal to work on, it's much easier without the rings in the way.

I stamped 2 of the opposite corners with the sunrise sunset clear set 4 in black archival.

I then sliced a piece of the A4 sunrise sunset paper in half, and rounded the outer corners to match the journal pages.

I sprayed 'vibrant turquoise' & 'cut grass' dylusions spray through the sunrise sunset 6x6 checkers stencil in a band across the middle of the pages.

Next I scraped texture paste through the sunrise sunset flower stencil, When it had dried, I placed the stencil back over the same place and applied permanent red shade pan pastel to the raised peaks with a sofft tool knife. Replacing the stencil before colouring stops any excess pan pastel from getting all over the page.

I used Tim's checkerboard texture fade on kraft card as I wanted a little more dimension but continuing the same pattern. I wiped it with some 'fire brick' distress ink.

Then it was just as case of layering up the photo's with some extra elements, like the sunrise sunset washi tape and sunrise sunset wood icons, along with some of  my own washi tape made by stamping the checker from the sunrise sunset clear stamp 4 set onto micropore tape.

I also made some mini rosettes from more of the A4 SS paper and finished with a couple of the engraver mini roses I had left over from last months kit and one of the vintage trinket medium flowers that I cut into pieces as the petals looked like leaves. Oh and a final bit of stamping with the ss clear stamp 4 flowers in 'vermillion' archival ink to add a bit more red in between the 2 photo's {which by the way is me and my OH Tony strawberry picking about 2 or 3 years ago.}
